The Most Beautiful Call

Here in the West
Where freedom is king
And the right to do all you want
Reigns supreme
The most beautiful call
Is silenced
By calls for the last round at the pub
And calls to friends to get your groove on
Down in the club

Here in the West
Where church bells ring
Morose tones
Of a people who have lost their religion
That most beautiful call
Silenced
That call of a religion
Misunderstood

Pray 5 times a day
Then a terrorist you must be
A life like that is far too extreme

Here in the West the birds sing
A sorrowful song
Each day at dawn
For they long for that call
They have heard
On their journeys to places we may never reach

Here in this place I call home
I yearn to hear the call to pray my lord
But instead I hear
Footsteps of lost souls
Too ignorant to know
They are walking down a path
Ahh I don’t even want to know

Here in the West where so many wish to flee
That most beautiful call is lost

Allahu Akbar
Allahu Akbar
Allahu Akbar
Allahu Akbar

There was even talk the other day
In this European country in which I now stay
Of banning this call in the place where Muslims pray

Why? You ask
Because they said it violates the freedom to choose
It’s considered a form of abuse

I took a moment to think

The call inside the mosque
Where Muslims go to worship their Rabb
Is abusive to the Muslims inside the masjid ?

Subhanallah

Here in the West
The most beautiful call

Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah
Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah

Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah

Is a thing of disgust
Why are those Muslims allowed
To thrust
Their religion on us

Who is us? I ponder

Am I not one of you?

Born in the land of the free and the home of the brave

There in my country of my birth
My president
Yes he’s my president
Said all Muslims must be banned

Where to Mr. Trump?
To their homelands?

So where are you going to send me?

Bermuda where my father was born
Trinidad the island my mother called home

Or to that place you called a word I don’t dare repeat
Where my ancestors were sold ?

Please tell me sir
‘Cause I think I have a right to know
Why you hate me so much?

Is it because I answer that most beautiful of calls?

Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah
Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah

With the words
There is no power nor might other than Allah

Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah
Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah

There is no power nor might other than Allah

Or because I prostrate before the Creator of you and I

Or maybe it’s my veil you hate so much
Hiding my beauty
In beautiful submission

Tell me
Girl at the supermarket
Who looks away every time she has to hand me my change

Do you hate me because of my modest dress?

Or because I cover my chest

And adorn myself with radiant beauty
So blinding it makes you can’t bear the sight

Of my face covered by a veil of pure delight

Or is it because when it’s time for the most beautiful call to be heard

I have it playing on my iPhone

Volume up loudly absurd

Because guess what I’m free and proud

Allahu Akbar
Allahu Akbar

La ilaha illa Allah
